What is Robusta Natural Coffee?
Have you ever wondered why the same Robusta coffee can have different flavors? This difference comes from the various processing methods. Coffee processed using the Natural method will taste different from Honey-processed coffee. In this article, we will discuss the Natural processing method of Robusta coffee.
What is Robusta Natural Coffee?
Vietnam is famous for producing more than 80% of its coffee as Robusta. With its resilient and robust growth characteristics, the climate and terrain of Vietnam, especially the Central Highlands, have cemented Robusta coffee’s reputation.
Robusta Natural coffee is made from beans with a high ripeness rate, processed using the Natural method (also known as dry or unwashed). With this method, the coffee beans absorb all the sweetness and aroma from the fruit’s skin.

Processing Method
Robusta coffee is cultivated and meticulously cared for before being harvested and processed.
Robusta Natural processing, also called natural or dry processing, is the most basic and common method for farmers or factories.
Coffee cherries are dried whole under the natural sunlight. After lying in the sun for a period (from 2 weeks to 1 month), the coffee dries from the outer skin into the bean.
Robusta Natural coffee and Robusta Honey only differ in processing methods. They share the requirement that the coffee cherries must be harvested with a high ripeness rate (≥96%).
Characteristics of Robusta Natural Coffee
Processed by the Natural method, this coffee stands out for its dried fruit flavor, full body, and balanced acidity and bitterness, with a sweet aftertaste. It suits both espresso and filter brewing methods, whether served black or with milk.
The advantage of Natural processing is that it saves water and is environmentally friendly. However, this method also carries the risk of mold if the weather is unpredictable.
Therefore, depending on the facilities, climate, and desired flavor profile, farmers will choose the appropriate processing method.

Quality Coffee for the 2024–2025 Season
In Vietnam’s Central Highlands, farmers will begin harvesting coffee in November. In 2024, due to climate change, the weather has been harsher. There was a prolonged drought from March to May, followed by storms and heavy rains in September, affecting both the timing of the harvest and the quantity and quality of the coffee.
By late September, VCU had already begun purchasing coffee from local farmers in Gia Lai. With its solid reputation, VCU has an extensive network across the province to source the highest-quality raw materials.
VCU is confident in being a reliable supplier for roasters, cafe chains, and coffee brands, fostering long-term and sustainable partnerships. We offer a wide range of green and roasted coffee beans, including Robusta Natural coffee, Robusta Honey, Robusta Clean, and varieties of Arabica and Excelsa.
