Decaf coffee is short for “Decaffeinated Coffee” – meaning coffee that has had its caffeine removed. This type of coffee must have at least 97% of its caffeine eliminated, often referred to as caffeine-free coffee.
Typically, a 180ml cup of decaf coffee contains only 0–8mg of caffeine, significantly lower than the usual 70–140mg found in regular coffee. While the standard caffeine removal rate is around 97%, some methods can reach up to 99% caffeine reduction.
Roasted Robusta Decaf is made from Robusta coffee beans that have undergone the decaffeination process.
Decaf coffee is well-suited for various brewing methods such as Pour Over, Cold Brew, espresso machines, and traditional drip brewing.
Decaffeinated beans require extra care in roasting, especially in controlling heat and time to avoid scorching and flavor loss. This is because decaf beans tend to be drier and more heat-sensitive than regular beans.
In general, roasting Robusta decaf demands a deep understanding of bean characteristics and precise roasting adjustments to achieve the desired cup profile.

The nutritional value of decaf coffee remains nearly identical to regular coffee – the only difference is the absence of caffeine. However, the cup profile will typically be smoother and lighter depending on the brewing method.
This coffee is perfect for those who love coffee but are sensitive to caffeine.
Due to the caffeine removal process, decaf coffee often has:
30–40% less bitterness, as caffeine is a bitter compound
Reduced acidity, creating a smoother mouthfeel
Enhanced natural sweetness
A long but gentle aftertaste
Robusta decaf typically features aromatic notes such as chocolate and caramel. The decaffeination process alters compounds like chlorogenic acid and trigonelline, which contribute to aroma development.

In color, Robusta decaf produces a brew that is 15 – 20% lighter than regular coffee – a clearer, light copper-brown tone. Crema is thinner and less persistent when brewed as espresso.
The true uniqueness of Robusta decaf is in the experience: It does not generate a quick boost of alertness – instead, it brings calm and relaxation, making it suitable for evening consumption without causing insomnia.
