About Culi Robusta Coffee

Culi coffee has a round shape. Normally, coffee beans come in pairs in a single fruit, but Culi coffee has only one bean per fruit. Therefore, Culi is considered a mutation of Robusta or Arabica.

Accounting for only 2-4% of a harvest, it is quite rare and valuable. Culi Robusta coffee possesses a unique, strong, and more bitter flavor compared to regular Robusta coffee.

In Vietnam, Culi Robusta coffee is still quite selective among drinkers. Typically, Culi is blended with Robusta or Arabica, or both, to create a special flavor that adds strength and suits consumer preferences.

Processing Method for Culi Robusta

Culi is processed similarly to Robusta coffee, usually by the unwashed/dry method. After washing the coffee, removing damaged beans, leaves, and dry branches, Robusta coffee is processed unwashed, and Culi Robusta beans are sorted. Subsequent steps are the same as for Robusta.

Flavor of Culi Coffee

If you were to describe Culi coffee in three words, they would likely be bitter, strong, and astringent. With such flavors, many might assume that Culi is less favored. However, due to its rarity, intensity, and distinctive character, Culi is increasingly loved by coffee connoisseurs. It is also commonly blended with Robusta or Arabica to enhance the unique flavor.

Price of Culi Coffee Beans

Because the yield per harvest is very low and the processing methods are unique, the price of Culi Robusta coffee depends on the harvest’s yield and fluctuates with the coffee market.
